MOUNT TOUBKAL CLIMB IN WINTER

Level:Type :

Period: from November till April

Length: 8 Days

At 4,167m, Mount Toubkal is the highest mountain in North Africa. The hike to the summit is challenging, but requires no mountaineering experience and the panoramic view from the summit makes the hard work worthwhile. With the start of the trek just a couple of hours drive from Marrakech, you can reach the summit and back within 2 days and still have plenty of time to explore Morocco’s most captivating city, Marrakech.Toubkal has become a magnet for trekkers heading to the Atlas Mountains. The Jebel Toubkal trek is typically done in two days. The first day begins with the relatively easy walk from Imlil along the Mizane Valley towards Aremd Village and the Muslim shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, followed by the tougher push up to the Toubkal Refuge, making around five hours walking in all. Most trekkers then aim to start early the following morning for the 3 hour scramble up to the summit (the trail at this point is a rocky scree covered path). At the summit, the views are incredible taking in most of the Atlas Mountains and on a clear day, the Sahara. The descent back down to Imlil takes around five hours.

: Arrive in Marrakech. Met upon arrival and transfer to a hotel.

: Marrakech - Imlil. Drive to Imlil which is the starting point of our trek.Overnight in a traditional guesthouse.

: Imlil - Tizi Mzik - Imlil. Acclimatisation day around the Imlil Valley. One option is to trek to a col at 2660m. / 8727ft. in the nearby Mezzik Valley. Return to Imlil.Overnight in a guesthouse.

: Refuge - Ras n'Ouankrim - Refuge. We now have two big mountain days. The guides will decide in which order we tackle the peaks. Toubkal is our main objective but if the weather is stable we may opt to first make an ascent of Ouanoukrim (4089m./ 13,415ft.), a straightforward climb with a final scramble to reach the summit.

: Refuge - Summit - Refuge. If we have opted to save North Africa's highest peak for today, we will make the steep ascent to the summit of Jebel Toubkal (4167m. / 13,672ft.). After time to enjoy the panoramic views we return to the Neltner Refuge for a final night.

: Refuge - Imlil - Marrakech. Leave the refuge and return down the Aroumd Valley to our guesthouse in Imlil, have lunch and drive back to Marrakech arriving later in the afternoon. Overnight in a Hotel.
